ASMITA SANGAVE

After BPTh, I pursued my Masters in Neuro-physiotherapy from Massachusetts General Hospital – Institute of Health Professions, Boston, following which I had the opportunity to work with Parkinson’s Disease and Movement disorder society (PDMDS) and Neurology Foundation where I was engaged at both grass root level and planning stage of some key projects such as Kaprada which aimed at providing primary health Care and generate awareness among the underprivileged members of the society. I am currently actively engaged in providing home care physical therapy broadly encompassing all relevant fields and more specifically neurological cases. I am also involved in organising and conducting seminars and presentations pertaining to physical therapy.

I graduated with a Bachelors in Physiotherapy from KJ Somaiya college in 2014. During my 4.5 year course, not only did we study theoretical concepts but were also introduced and encouraged to practice in different clinical units such as Orthopaedics, Neurology, Gynaecology and Medical/Surgical. This model of education strengthened our concepts and made us good clinicians . To further advance my career , I decided to travel halfway across the globe to pursue a masters in musculoskeletal physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh (USA). Here we focused on evidence based clinical practice guidelines, sport injuries , spinal dysfunction based on movement patterns (treatments such as spinal manipulation).
Since 2016, I have been a licensed PT , working in a variety of settings (outpatient , skilled nursing facility, hospital). I currently work in California, in an outpatient clinic affiliated to a hospital . I practice aquatic therapy and treat a wide variety of orthopedic and neurological disorders. Both
these institutions (KJ & UPitt) have played a huge role in my career. I am forever indebted to my alma mater.
YASHESH GORADIA

I studied Musculoskeletal PT at University of Pittsburgh. We studied about different sports injuries and surgeries related to them, read latest articles about optimal exercise for strengthening most muscles and a little bit about vestibular rehab. Overall it was a really good experience learning the latest evidence based practice, in depth study of anatomy and all the different manipulations for the spine. My UG in Somaiya really helped me clear the basics which is the most important. I was able to relate all my experiences from Somaiya when it came to my hands-on during clinics in the US.
Currently I am working in New York City at an out patient clinic along with a team of chiropractor, acupuncture therapist and massage therapist. VISA in the US is a hard nut to crack I would say.One can have a better education in countries like Australia,New Zealand. The quality of education seems much more better than that of the US. The VISA approval in USA is not easy to get through is another thing that has to be engraved in your minds. A big thank you to all my professors, batch-mates and seniors.
